Product Overview

Single screw barrels are widely used in plastic extrusion equipment for pipe extrusion, film extrusion, sheet extrusion, pelletizing, recycling extrusion and other continuous plastic processing applications. The screw and barrel system directly affects material conveying, melting, mixing, pressure building and output stability.

Nanhaiya manufactures custom single screw barrels according to machine model, drawings, samples or measured dimensions. The screw barrel design can be reviewed based on processed material, screw diameter, L/D ratio, output requirement, wear condition and extrusion application.

Our engineering team can review extruder information, screw barrel photos, drawings, samples or measured dimensions to support quotation and technical evaluation. Whether the application involves PE, PP, PVC, ABS, recycled plastics or filled materials, the final screw and barrel design should be matched to the processed material, equipment and working conditions.

Suitable Applications

This product is commonly used for the following applications, depending on material, machine model and processing conditions. Explore related applications on our Screw Barrel Applications page.

Common Processing Issues

1

Reduced conveying efficiency

Solution: Screw or barrel wear can reduce material conveying performance and affect extrusion output over time.

2

Poor melting or plasticizing

Solution: Incomplete melting, uneven plasticizing or unstable melt quality may require screw design review based on material and application.

3

Output fluctuation

Solution: Inconsistent output may be related to screw clearance, barrel wear, feeding condition, temperature control or machine settings.

4

High wear with recycled or filled materials

Solution: Recycled plastics, fillers or abrasive compounds may require suitable material selection or surface treatment.

5

Specification confirmation

Solution: When original drawings are unavailable, machine information, photos, samples and measured dimensions can support specification review and manufacturing confirmation.

Material Options

Nanhaiya manufactures single screw and extruder screw barrel components from the following conventional materials:

38CrMoAlA Nitrided Steel (Standard)

The commonly used material for single screw barrels. After nitriding treatment, it achieves a surface hardness of HV900-1000 with a nitriding depth of 0.5-0.8mm. Suitable for processing PE, PP, PS and general-purpose plastics without highly abrasive fillers.

SKD61 / Cr12MoV (High-Hardness Tool Steel)

Tool steel grades commonly used for screw components requiring higher quenching hardness. After quenching treatment, these materials achieve HRC55-62 hardness. Can be designed for applications with moderate wear requirements, depending on processed material and working conditions.

SACM645 (Nitriding Steel)

A nitriding-grade steel similar to 38CrMoAlA, commonly used for screw components. Provides consistent nitriding response with HV900-1000 surface hardness and 0.5-0.8mm nitriding depth.

Ni-Based Alloy & GH113 (Corrosion-Resistant)

For applications involving corrosive additives or aggressive processing environments, Ni-based alloy and GH113 materials are available. These can be designed for processing PVC with stabilizers, fluoropolymer additives or other corrosive compounds, depending on material type and working conditions.

Bimetallic Screw and Barrel (Optional)

For higher wear-resistance requirements, a bimetallic screw and barrel with alloy spray welding is available. Alloy depth is 0.8-2.0mm. This option can be designed for processing glass-fiber reinforced compounds, calcium carbonate-filled materials or recycled plastics with contaminants. Final material selection should be confirmed depending on processed material, screw design, extruder model and working conditions.

For more details on alloy surface treatment, see our alloy spray welding service page.

Surface Treatment Options

Nitriding Treatment (Standard)

The standard surface treatment for Nanhaiya single screw barrels. Gas nitriding produces a hardened surface layer with a nitriding hardness of HV900-1000 and a nitriding depth of 0.5-0.8mm. This provides good wear resistance for general-purpose extrusion of PE, PP, PS and other common thermoplastics.

Quenching Treatment

For screw components made from SKD61 or Cr12MoV tool steel, quenching treatment achieves a surface hardness of HRC55-62. This treatment can be used for applications requiring higher mechanical strength and moderate wear resistance, depending on processed material and working conditions.

Alloy Spray Welding (Optional)

For higher wear-resistance requirements, alloy spray welding can be applied to screw and barrel surfaces. This treatment produces an alloy layer with a depth of 0.8-2.0mm. Can be designed for processing abrasive or corrosive materials, depending on filler type, loading and working conditions. For more details, see our alloy spray welding service page.

Bimetallic Alloy Layer (Optional)

For demanding applications involving highly filled compounds or abrasive materials, a bimetallic alloy layer can be applied to the barrel interior. This provides enhanced wear resistance compared to standard nitriding. Final surface treatment selection should be confirmed depending on processed material, screw design, extruder model and working conditions.
